Step 1 - Find out what ACC do and don't cover
- ACC only funds acupuncture and physiotherapy for injuries caused by an accident (e.g., sprains, falls, sports injuries).
- Not covered: stress, fertility, chronic non‑injury pain.
- Everyone in NZ: residents, workers, children, retirees, visitors are automatically covered.

Step 2 - Get Assessed & Lodge an ACC Claim
Before you can receive acupuncture under ACC, your injury must first be assessed and lodged as an ACC45 claim.
Visit a Registered Health Professional
- An approved healthcare provider, including our Physio Clinic physiotherapist, Active Health physiotherapists, or your GP, can assist you with lodging an ACC45 claim for your ACC‑related injury.
- Contact us anytime — our physiotherapist is here to help you get your ACC claim sorted and support your recovery. Our physiotherapist will complete and submit an ACC45 injury claim form for you.
Step 3 - Receive your ACC45 Claim Number
ACC will review your claim and let you know whether it has been approved or declined.
ACC Reviews and Accepts the Claim
- If approved, you receive an ACC claim number.
- This number is essential, and you must provide it to our Chinese Medicine Practitioner (Acupuncturist) and our physiotherapist to receive subsidized treatment.
Step 4 - Book your first appointment
Book your appointment for acupuncture or physiotherapy with us
Book with us after your claim is accepted
- No referral is required to see our Chinese Medicine Practitioners (Acupuncturists) or our physiotherapist.
- Just bring your ACC claim number to your first appointment.
Step 5 - Recover before your ACC cover expires
Please make sure to book your acupuncture session before your ACC cover expires. Our Chinese Medicine Practitioners (Acupuncturists) and physiotherapist will also remind you during your treatments.
Arrange your treatments before your ACC cover expires
Please note that ACC cover depends on your accepted ACC claim and individual circumstances. If you are unsure whether your claim is still valid for acupuncture treatment or physiotherapy treatment, please contact us before booking and we can help check the details with you.
ACC-funded acupuncture treatment
- ACC claims are no longer valid if more than one year has passed since the date of injury.
- Once acupuncture treatment has started, ACC may cover up to 12 acupuncture sessions within 12 weeks from the date of your first acupuncture appointment for that injury claim.
ACC-funded physiotherapy treatment
- ACC claims are no longer valid if more than one year has passed since the date of injury.
- ACC generally covers up to 16 physiotherapy treatment sessions per claim under standard funding. If further treatment is clinically required, your physiotherapist can apply to ACC for additional sessions. Physiotherapy funding usually expires 12 months from the date of injury.
